The intense rainfall that had swept over the Bardenas Reales during the Storm Ciaran the previous day had made the terrain challenging to traverse. The clay sediments of these desert badlands become extremely slippery when wet. The colors were, however, more intense and saturated, and the air more pure. During the sunset, a massive cloud above the scene reflected the orange light down on the ravines, making them shine. This small bush created made for a foreground, surrounding the mudflow at the bottom of the valley which naturally guides the eye towards the Rallon peak.
