Licensing an image -
how does it work ?

  • Find the perfect photo(s) for your project - or identify an image you've already spotted - by browsing my gallery here and clicking on an image to get its name.

If you are unsure about which image to choose, we can discuss and I can advise you on what would be the best one(s) for your particular project - please contact me here.

  • Now that you know which image you want to license, you can send me the name of the image and the details regarding its use (usage and distribution, geographic scope, duration…) through the form at the bottom of the page.

I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

  • After reviewing your message, I will forward you a quote based on the information you’ve provided.

Once we are both satisfied with the details, I will then send you a link to pay the license fee - and either mail you the files or prepare a link to download them !

If you require custom commissioned content, I also offer high-quality photography services tailored to your needs.

Rates

An image license grants you specific permissions to use copyrighted artwork for defined purposes. This ensures creators are fairly compensated for their intellectual property and allows for flexible usage tailored to diverse commercial needs.

Licensing fees are determined by the specific value and reach an image provides for your campaign. They’re based upon established industry best practices (rates suggested by the SAIF, APA…), ensuring fair valuation for both the artist and the licensee and reflecting the scale and reach of your campaign.

  • Usage rights

This refers to the specific purpose for which the image will be used. For instance, an image used for a global advertising campaign carries significantly more value than one for a small, internal presentation. Common usage types include :

    • Web/Digital : Websites, social media posts, email newsletters, digital banners.

    • Print : Brochures, magazines, billboards, packaging, point-of-sale displays.

    • Broadcast : Television commercials, online video advertisements.

    • Editorial : Non-commercial articles in magazines, newspapers, or online publications (often at a different rate).

    Geographic scope

The geographical area in which the image will be distributed or displayed. Naturally, an image licensed for worldwide use across all markets commands a higher value than one restricted to a single country or region, reflecting its wider reach and potential impact.

    Duration of use

The period during which you are authorized to use the image. Standard licenses range from 6 months to several years, with options for perpetual (indefinite) use. Longer durations,or perpetual licenses, offer greater long-term value and are priced accordingly.

    Audience & placement

This considers the potential audience size and the prominence of the image's display. For example, an image on a high-traffic homepage or a national billboard reaching millions will be valued differently than one on a low-traffic internal page.

    Exclusivity

An exclusive license grants your organization sole usage rights for a specified period, preventing others from licensing the same image. Non-exclusive licenses, where the image may be licensed to multiple parties, are more common and carry a lower fee. Exclusivity ensures your campaign stands out uniquely.

Please note that the above factors work in combination to determine the final license fee. Each project is unique, and my goal is to provide a fair and transparent quote that reflects the specific value and scope of your intended use.

To receive a tailored quote for licensing my images, please contact me with details about your project. The more information you provide, the more accurately I can assess your needs correctly and offer the best licensing solution.

    • The specific image(s) you are interested in (from my gallery).

    • Your company/organization name and type.

    • The intended use(s) of the image(s) (e.g., "for our company website homepage and social media marketing").

    • The desired geographic reach (e.g., "France only," "Europe," "Worldwide").

    • The intended duration of use (e.g., "1 year," "3 years," "perpetual").

    • Any exclusivity requirements.

  • In most countries, including France, pictures areby default protected by the law as they’re considered to be part of the photographer’s intellectual property - which is named Copyright in English, or droits d’auteur in French. This means that it is impossible for anyone other than the photographer to use these images without his permission - whether it is to use, modify, reproduce or distribute them. This fundamental legal protection ensures the artist is fairly compensated for their creative work.

  • The purchase of an image license allows you, thanks to an agreement with the photographer, to use one or several of his photos without transferring ownership of the image itself. The licenses you can purchase here are called "Rights-Managed". The use of the images you bought a license for must remain within the framework and according to the terms initially defined, for example : territory, size, duration and type of use, applications…

This tailored approach ensures you pay only for the rights you need, while I am appropriately compensated for the specific value and reach of your campaign.

  • Once the licensing agreement is signed and payment is received, images are typically delivered digitally within 1-2 business days via a secure download link. For commissioned projects, timelines are agreed upon in the project proposal.

  • Yes, multiple uses and longer durations (including perpetual licenses) can be negotiated and included in your licensing agreement. Your custom quote will specify the full scope of rights granted. If your needs change after an initial license, renewals and expansions of usage can be arranged.

  • Minor modifications like cropping or resizing are generally permitted to fit your layout needs, provided they do not alter the core artistic integrity or context of the image. For any significant alterations or artistic manipulations, explicit prior written consent is required. All licenses typically require proper photo credit. (This is a common legal point).

  • Absolutely. I specialize in creating bespoke visual content tailored to your needs. If you need specific landscapes, destinations, cityscapes or concepts captured, please visit my services page or tab in the header, or contact me directly to discuss your project requirements.

  • No. My photography is 100% human-created art. Every image is captured on location and undergoes meticulous, hands-on post-production to preserve its authenticity and artistic integrity.

  • The images will be in .tiff and .png extensions by default. I can also send them to you in many other ones, such as .jpg if you need compressed images for your website.

  • The images will be in sRGB by default, as this is the most compatible and universal color space for online use. I can also send them to you in AdobeRGB or ProPhoto RGB.
