The crowned peak
Late summer evening in the southern French Alps, in the Écrins National Park. Almost no flowers remained in the valley floor, and the main stream had nearly dried up. Several flocks of sheep with their shepherd dogs roamed around the path. As we continued climbing, we finally managed to find water. A small stream flowed down one of the rock faces, dispersing among the boulders below. The peak, which had remained hidden by clouds all afternoon, revealed its split summit for just a few minutes, bathed in the day's last light and crowned with clouds.
