Yellow broccoli
Having seen this surprisingly distinctive plant, Aeonium urbicum, all over the Canary Islands, I finally decided to photograph it in the highlands of Gran Canaria. Its flowers remind me of broccoli. The background conditions were perfect, with a sea of clouds stopping at the foot of the volcanic peaks, and a light mist that filtered the golden sunset light. Only the mysterious outline of the mountains was visible through the haze. The roundness and gentle curves of this plant contrast beautifully with the sharp edges of the peaks silhouetted against the horizon.
